| Partnership Main Page | What is "concurrent enrollment?" Concurrent enrollment is the process by which individuals from Gateway who are not NKU regularly enrolled students may take university course work in academic departments at NKU. The purpose of concurrent enrollment is to allow Gateway students working on an associate degree at Gateway to earn course credits at NKU toward their Gateway degree requirements. Gateway must preapprove all students for the program prior to enrollment at NKU. The concurrent enrollment students are classified as "visiting" or "transient" non-degree students at NKU. Concurrent enrollment students participate fully in courses, and at the end of the semester are graded in competition with the other students taking the course. What is the difference between the Concurrent Enrollment Program and the Dual Admission Program? Differences:
Can I enroll in classes at NKU without participating in the concurrent enrollment program or dual admission program? Yes. Students not participating in a program will be required to complete a standard application for admission (http://apply.nku.edu) and pay the normal NKU tuition rate. We suggest that you check with an advisor or the transfer office prior to enrolling in classes to determine if the satisfactorily completed course work will transfer to Gateway and count toward a specific degree program. Who is eligible to participate in the concurrent enrollment program at NKU? NKU makes every effort to accommodate all students wishing to participate in the Concurrent Enrollment Program. Gateway must preapprove participation in the program prior to student's enrollment in classes at NKU. What courses may I take through the concurrent enrollment program? Students may take those courses at NKU where they meet the class prerequisites. Since enrollment through the concurrent enrollment program is on a space available basis, students cannot be assured of enrollment in a specific class. All courses taken as a concurrent student must be approved by Gateway prior to enrolling in the class at NKU. How do I enroll in the concurrent enrollment program? The concurrent enrollment program is jointly administered by Gateway and NKU. The Office of Student Affairs at Gateway located on the Covington campus will give you the enrollment from that you will use to sign-up for your NKU course(s). After Gateway processes the completed concurrent enrollment form, take the form to the Office of the Registrar at NKU to register for class(es). The office is located in Room 301 Lucas Administrative Center, Highland Heights, KY. NKU will collect the appropriate tuition and fees and send you your final grade at the end of the semester. How do I enroll in the Concurrent Enrollment Program? Students desiring transfer course credit for concurrent enrollment courses taken at NKU must complete an Application for Concurrent Enrollment form and obtain the proper signatures from Gateway and NKU. This process guarantees that credit earned for course work taken at NKU will transfer for equivalent course credit at Gateway. Where do I get the Application for Concurrent Enrollment form? The form is available online at ????? or can be picked up at the Dean of Students' office at Gateway (located on the Covington campus). The form must be signed by the Dean of Students at Gateway and ???? from NKU in order to guarantee the appropriate tuition rate and transferability of course work from NKU to Gateway. Do I need to request a NKU transcript to receive Gateway transfer credit for course work taken at NKU? Yes. Requests for transcripts are handled by the Office of the Registrar located in the Room 301, Lucas Administrative Center, telephone: (859) 572-5556, fax: (859) 572-6094. Transcripts are issued at no charge and are official, bearing the Seal of the University and signature of the Registrar. Transcripts are provided for courses completed at Northern Kentucky University ONLY. All requests for transcripts must be made in writing or in-person with photo identification (faxes are accepted; phone requests are not). When I am ready to transfer from Gateway to NKU, what do I need to do? The transfer process depends on whether or not you have been taking previous coursework at NKU (as an admitted student not as a concurrently enrolled student) and then transferred to Gateway.
