 Planning to Transfer

Partnership Main Page

It is never too soon to begin planning a transfer curriculum. We suggest that you contact your NKU academic college early in your educational planning.

Advisors will help you select courses that will transfer to NKU and apply to your specific degree. Staying in contact with NKU advisors will help ensure that you don't take courses that are not transferable or not applicable to a baccalaureate degree.

If you are not certain which degree you want to pursue, don't worry! More than half of NKU students change their majors at least once. The key is to begin taking courses that will apply to most degrees.

Seek out the Gateway community college transfer coordinator. The coordinator can tell you if the classes you plan to take at Gateway will be required for your NKU degree.

Transfer Criteria

The transfer of credit is determined by the educational quality of the transfer institution, the comparability of content and level of credit earned, and the applicability of credit earned, and the applicability of credit earned to NKU's degree requirements. Most academic credits submitted from any regionally accredited two- or four-year college, community college, or university are accepted by NKU.

Transfer students have the same status as students who originally enrolled at Eastern. Acceptability of courses, demonstration of basic skills, grades, grade point standing, and eligibility to participate in extra curricular activities all are essentially the same for you as for other students.

EVALUATING YOUR TRANSCRIPT

To transfer to NKU from other regionally accredited colleges and universities you need:

  • Minimum GPA - A cumulative GPA of 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
  • Good standing at all previous schools

If you attended a Kentucky Public University or College or any other regionally accredited college or university, your previous general education college work will transfer to NKU. Course work taken will be evaluated and credit will be applied to general education, departmental, and degree requirements. See Kentucky General Education Transfer Policy for more information.
